Joseph DeLappe and Micol Hebron are both artists born in Northern California. Joseph DeLappe is the Professor of Games and Tactical Media at Abertay University in Dundee, Scotland. He works with electronic and new media. Much of works, sculptures, online gaming performance, and electromechanical installations have been shown all over the world. Micol Hebron is a video performance artist who works out of LA. She went to school at UCSD, UCLA, and Accademia Di Belle Arti in Italy. Both artists have had many showcases displaying their various works of art.

Micol Hebron has works that are an integration of art with technology, art with social media. Much of her work explores themes of gender equality, freedom of speech, and feminism. One of her works is an image of two males standing face to face with their genitalia twisted together. Her choice of colors are interesting and are bright. There is some texture displayed that can be seen in the pubic hair. There are also streaks from the medium used and the images are not super smooth. The image itself isn’t super realistic, but it is enough to tell what the drawing is. Joseph DeLappe however has works that are large. The scale is bigger than life size and it’s very interesting to look at. He has made cardboard structures that offer political commentary. In his exhibition Memory and Resistance he highlighted many works. Each cut to piece the sculptures together is significant and contributes to the overall flow of the piece. It is smooth and although it is so simple it has a lot of meaning. The geometric look of it makes it look more modern and different from other types of sculptures.

While much of Hebron’s works can make people feel uncomfortable they are messages. She strives to have her projects serve as messages to others. Her interests are in pedagogy, epistemology, evolutionary biology and much more. Much of her current works address how ideas of feminism might influence contemporary art. For Joseph DeLappe, he entered an online network and a video game to type in the names of fallen US soldiers from the Iraq war to highlight the consequences of drone warfare. These works represent history and call attention to the subject he is trying to address. He work is differnt from Hebron’s in that their main focus is on different subjects. Much of his works are not as provocative as Hebron’s. Both these authors are using their platform to bring attention to things that are important to them.

Both of the exhibitions were wonderful to look at. They are both incredibly impactful and have their own meanings and significance behind them. Micol Hebron’s works really captured my attention because her art focuses on many issues that I believe strongly in. While DeLappe’s works are amazingly stunning, I don’t have much relation to them, but after seeing his work it has made me want to do more research on the subject. Both artists are doing amazing things to help bring awareness to subjects that they find are important.
